about

This song was written with a number of things in mind. First and foremost, it was built from a story my father told me about spending time with his step-mom who was in a hospital near the end of her life. During this visit Lil' imagined that her best friend was in the room along with my dad. This was not the case as her best friend had been deceased for a number of years. Most would find this uncomfortable. Not my dad who said in regard to the conversation, "the three of us enjoyed it a lot." Lovely sentiment from an amazing guy who has a gift of finding beauty in unexpected places. Thanks dad.

Musically this is my attempt to follow the rules (standard song structures and key changes) my pal Ben Weasel, (a really talented and fairly famous singer and songwriter) has insisted for years one should employ. He's right and this rule helped free me to create the most catchy songs of my sporadic career as a songwriter.

As a side-note, this is simply one of a number of ways Ben helped with this project. He's a great friend.

For those who read or play music, you'll recognize this is a standard song progression in terms of key changes and arrangement. The artistic twist comes in the decisions made sonically, with instrumentation and different vocal FX placed throughout the song.

Hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed writing, playing and recording it.
