The story goes that I’m hanging out in the 7th Entry on a Friday night but bored by what I’m hearing (I think it was Rifle Sport’s 15th anniversary show but I could be wrong, and they weren’t on stage yet), so I cross over to First Ave and see a girl who I ask to dance. Well, she doesn’t like the music playing at the moment so I give up. But wait, across the bar our intrepid hero spies his pal Erika (who went on to work at Lookout Records and introduced me to my pal Benjamin Weasel!) and she’s hanging with this girl from NYC named Jackie.

Side-note: Jackie is the girl who, when I first saw her said “there’s no way SHE would ever go out with me.”

So I check my intestinal fortitude, it’s on empty, but what the hell, I’ll ask them to dance. Bloody hell, they say “yes” and we proceed to have a fantastic time, what with me buying beers for us to share and all.

Somewhere in the evening one of them slips and falls on the very wet dance floor and I think to myself (because I’m a deep-thinker) “if I fall in front of these two beautiful girls, I’m out of here.” Yep, I fell, got up, waved to them and went home. They had no idea that I had left and instead thought I had gone to get another round of beers. Nope. Home dead asleep.

Again, I’m a deep-thinker.

The next Tuesday Jackie tracks me down at a club my band Mickey Finn is playing and we’ve been thick as thieves ever since.

So this song is for her. The girl I love dancing with.
